Katie Taylor was the most searched person in Ireland, and most searched Olympian

Google has released its annual 'Zeitgeist' of the most-searched queries among Irish users, with 'Euro 2012' and 'Katie Taylor' topping the list respectively.

In a summer dominated by sport it comes as no surprise that the two terms were the top two searches. Ms Taylor was also the most searched person in Ireland, and most searched Olympian.

RTÉ’s crime series Love/Hate made it into the top-ten TV show searches, which was led by Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy.

Whitney Houston, who died on the eve of the Grammy Awards at the age of 48, was on numerous top-ten lists including most searched term, news story and person.

The Household Charge controversy, murders of Jill Meagher and April Jones, and soccer player Fabrice Muamba collapse while playing for Bolton Wanderers also were in the top-ten news story searches of 2012.

Benidorm was the top trending travel destination, while Taoiseach Enda Kenny was the most searched politician of 2012.
