Jenni Rivera, one of Mexico's most popular singers, died when her plane crashed after a concert. She was 43.

The Learjet 25 crashed on Sunday in northern Mexico, killing all seven people on board, according to Alejandro Argudin, head of the civil aviation agency, who spoke to the Milenio newspaper on Sunday.

The cause of the crash 120km south of Monterrey was not immediately known.

Rivera gave a concert on Saturday night in the northern city of Monterrey and was flying to Toluca outside Mexico City, where she was to participate as a coach in the Mexican version of the television talent show The Voice.

The private plane lost contact with the control tower shortly after takeoff. Recovery teams found its remains 12 hours later.

Rivera, born in California to Mexican immigrants, had sold 15 million records in Mexico and the United States and was nominated four times for Latin Grammy Awards.

The mother of five is considered one of the most-loved singers of norteno and banda music and sang about social issues and relationships.

The other victims of the crash were the pilot, co-pilot and four members of Rivera's team.
