US rapper P Diddy now owns a piece of South African art by controversial artist Brett Murray, reports Volksblad.

Murray, who shot to fame for his artwork The Spear which depicted President Jacob Zuma in a rather unflattering way, rejoiced in the news that the famous rapper bought a piece from his collection.

Goodman gallery, who represents Murray, recently sent in pieces to an exhibition held at the Art Basel gallery in Miami, Florida from 6 to 9 December.

'On a high note'

The piece bought by P Diddy is entitled Manifesto, and was part of Murray's collection titled Hail to the Thief II, which also included The Spear.

"It seems like P Diddy has a rather extensive collection of contemporary artwork, and it's nice to know that one of my pieces are now part of his collection," Murray told Volksblad.

"It's also nice to know that you can end off a rather difficult year on a high note."
